VCF 9 – Host Commissioning

VCF 9 has mostly done away with the SDDC Manager – it still gets deployed, but is scheduled for deprecation. I assume it’s still there to allow customers that have deveoped their own automation workflows that hit the SDDC-M endpoint.

We now have a new method of commissioning and deploying hosts via the vCenter directly.

Browse to Global Inventory Lists / Hosts

Once we hit “Commission Hosts” we’ll see the same wizard that used to be in SDDC:

Once completed, we’ll see the available host:

Now to expand the cluster, we just browse to it in vCenter / right click on cluster / Add Hosts / Add Unassigned Host

Validation Checks

Then in a few minutes we should see tasks start to appear in the vCenter for the cluster expansion.

After a couple of minutes the deployment task will complete and we have our expanded cluster!
